On 4 February 2026, the Cape Academy of Mathematics, Science and Technology (CAMST) warmly welcomed teachers and learners from Beijing No. 20 High School for a meaningful day of cultural exchange and mutual learning.
The visit began with informal interactions between students from both schools, followed by a welcoming ceremony held in the Bliksaal. Mrs. Emily Angelina Naidu, Principal of CAMST, officially welcomed the visiting delegation and introduced the school’s educational vision and academic programs. CAMST learner representatives shared insights into the school’s special initiatives, and the school choir performed a vibrant African song, showcasing the school’s rich cultural diversity.

Students from Beijing No. 20 High School introduced Chinese characters and elements of Chinese aesthetics, offering a glimpse into their cultural heritage. They also performed their school song. The ceremony concluded with an exchange of gifts and a group photograph, symbolizing friendship and cooperation between the two institutions.
As part of the program, the visiting delegation joined a Mandarin class, providing Beijing learners with the opportunity to observe and engage with Chinese language teaching within a South African school context. The Confucius Classroom at CAMST played an important role in facilitating this interaction, offering a shared linguistic and cultural platform for learners from both countries.
In the afternoon, learners from the two schools participated in a friendly soccer match, which fostered teamwork, sportsmanship, and lively interaction both on and off the field. After the match, teachers and learners shared dinner together, continuing their conversations and strengthening connections in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
Throughout the day, learners exchanged ideas on a wide range of topics, including hobbies, school life, and personal interests. Many formed new friendships and exchanged contact details by the end of the visit.
CAMST values opportunities for international exchange and cultural dialogue. The visit from Beijing No. 20 High School strengthened mutual understanding among learners and staff and reflected the school’s commitment to global engagement, intercultural learning, and meaningful partnerships.
